How it works

Anyone who wants to run, walk or paddle in a team to raise money for Red Cross War Memorial Children's Hospital. (Letter of Authorization)

The event

Friday 30^th October at 6pm will be the start of the team challenge to race non-stop against other teams. The winning team is the one that covers the greatest distance by the time the challenge finishes 24 hours later. The 24hr Charity Relay Challenge is a unique event that will test your stamina more than before!

Your relay team will be twelve heroes with the spirit, stamina, speed and sheer guts to race around the clock! Disciplines are canoeing and run/walking.

Why do it?

The Red Cross War Memorial Children's Hospital is a cornerstone of paediatric health care in Southern Africa and is the stand alone, specialist children's hospital dedicated entirely to children in southern Africa. The Red Cross War Memorial Children's Hospital, with its unique collaboration of research, teaching and medical practice for the benefit exclusively of children needs all of our support. Running a world-class institution is exceptionally expensive and the Children's Hospital Trust needs ongoing support to raise the critical complementary funding to ensure that the Hospital remains a centre of paediatric excellence, giving hope to sick children and their families. Each healthy child that leaves the Hospital is a reminder of the enormous importance of every donation, small and large, to the more than 250,000 children treated at the Hospital annually. 100% of the funds donated from the 24hr Charity Relay Challenge will be used towards the upgrading of a surgical ward at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital

Extras

Your entry gives you 24-hour cash catering and bar facilities. Participants are encouraged to pitch a small tent on the 500sq/m grass oval at the Club House for an overnight camp. There will be DSTV, jumping castle and braai facilities available. Bring tents, friends and family to make a night of it (children welcome)! The Curry Cup Final will be show live in the Club House on Saturday. The Club House has hot showers etc so you can freshen up afterwards.

What you need to do?

Get eleven of your friends, club mates, work colleagues, school or varsity friends together. Register on line at www.24hrcharitychallenge.co.za. It's just R2400 to enter the team of twelve (R200pp). If you are unable to take part you can still help out by sponsoring a team. Remember, every donation helps - no matter how large or small. Discount rates for schools apply.

What else?

As the event is taking place next to Canal Walk shopping centre it opens up a range of other options. There is entertainment for the kids at the Science Centre or the cinemas. You can do some shopping while your partner is sweating out on the course and there are also a number of restaurants to try.
